Let me explain what The 86 Dish is about. I've worked in the service industry (the SIN) since I was a teenager. While many times the SIN can be fun, flexible and financially friendly it can also be the source of many a negative vibe. I've worked with people strung out on narcotics. Alcoholics. Power trippers. Sleezy coworkers. Lazy coworkers. Shady coworkers and selfish ones too. The list could go on and on as I'm sure many of you out there are familiar. The last couple of years have proven to be pretty tough for me in the biz and as a result I've found myself more and more frequently wishing I had somewhere to spew out my anger and frustration. So here goes. My first attempt at tossing my hat into the blogging circle.
I'm not sure how I'm going to go about this thing as of yet. I've thought about how nice it would be to throw everyone under the bus and include names and locations. I've thought about taking the path less traveled and NOT. We'll see. I guess it may have to do with the MOD. No. Not the manager on duty, the "Mood of the Day". Although I guess my MOD could be determined by the MOD.
What I would really like would be for others to use this blog as a means to unload as well. Share your thoughts. Offer advice. Or maybe just trash your place of employment til you feel as though you're able to hit "publish" and walk away a less disgruntled person. As for including names and specifics that will be up to you and how you sleep at night.
My first "86"
I'd like to 86 the private restaurant owner. Maybe not so much all of them as a whole, but just the ones who bulldoze their way through life leaving a trail of unemployed's behind them. Their intentions are selfish. Their thoughts are shallow. They can't see the dirty plates in front of them. I always feel like they will eventually get what's coming. Many times I find myself hoping they will fail and I hate that. What sucks is that these people can conduct themselves any way they wish. There's no accountability for them. I guess there is, but you have to wait for the local eaters to figure out that the people running the place are the source of whatever problems begin to show and grow. In the meantime I have to continue to tell myself, "You can do one of two things. Ignore all this BS and just show up for work make your money and go home orrrrrrrr, FIND ANOTHER JOB." I just wish one of these times the owner would get their ass in gear, clean up their act and provide a positive working environment where you can thrive financially and mentally. Maybe this all just comes with the territory. But why? I wish I could find someone I could work for whom I could trust, depend on, and enjoy all at the same time.
I can't help but think that person could only ever be me. Maybe one of these days I'll be the private owner. I'm not sure that's where I want to be though. Then I'd have to 86 myself.
